About the Artist.

Andy's artwork is created using a mix of techniques, including real photography, 3D modelling and image manipulation. From real-life scenes to fantasy art, Andy endeavours to ensure his imagination holds no bounds.

Mad-Dog

Andy "Mad-Dog" McFarlane is an Edinburgh-based artist and musician. He has always had an interest in art, manifesting itself in bursts of creativity at various stages of his life. He recently began his first steps in the world of digital art and subsequently set about learning this art form.

Originally his interest lay in recreating his own fractal art, predominantly as a form of therapeutic exercise - but also for use as desktop wallpapers - and a whole series of fractal generators were investigated. The Mad-Dog's favoured programmes for fractal art are Mind-Boggling Fractals Light, Apophysis and Chaoscope. These programmes are available for free - click on the programme name to link to the download. Examples of Mad-Dog's fractal art can be found in the Abstract section of this website.

From fractals, his interest then spread to the world of 3D art. By downloading the (free) DAZ3D Studio, a whole world offered itself to the now avidly manic artist. As well as building a sizeable library of 3D models and textures (Renderosity is a particularly good resource site for models and freebies), he undertook many hours of tutorials and began to learn Photoshop for the necessary postwork involved. The air inside Maison d'Etrangere is often blue [#0000ff] as a consequence of this undertaking!

Also in the 3D armoury, and sticking with the DAZ 'family' is Bryce 7.0, and Carrara 8.0 although progress has been slow in learning these particular pieces of software, and Andy freely admits that they aren't used as often as they could be.
